Building An Asian Wok Kitchen

I am overjoyed to inform you that, due to my sponsors, I have finally completed my redesign project of converting my modest walk-in pantry into an Asian wok kitchen!

As a lover of Asian cuisine, particularly wok cooking, I’ve never been satisfied with my American kitchen’s standard cooktops and range hood.

I’ve lost count of the times I’ve triggered my house’s smoke detector and alarm when I fire up my wok for a fast stir-fry. If you’re familiar with Asian cuisine or wok cooking, you’ll understand what I’m saying.

The heat is insufficiently hot, the range hood does not effectively remove grease and smoke, and the smoke alarm goes off anytime we attempt to prepare “wok hei” (breath of wok).

As a result, my desire has always been to have a wok kitchen in addition to a standard kitchen.

I cook so frequently for the blog and my family that I actually require two kitchens.

My walk-in pantry is compact, measuring only 67 inches wall-to-wall.

However, size is not a constraint if you know how to plan and construct a little place to meet your needs. I desired two (2) 15-inch gas cooktops, one of which would be dedicated to wok cooking with a high-power burner / BTU. I don’t require a large counter space as long as I have room on both sides of the burner.

I enlisted the assistance of a kitchen designer, and together we drew up the idea. It’s the most effective way for me to utilize the limited area I have while remaining functional and efficient.

The wok kitchen features cupboards and drawers, and one of the cabinets features a rolling shelf unit for my sauces, ensuring that my limited kitchen surface area remains generally clutter-free.

During my stay in San Francisco Bay Area, I visited Atherton Appliance in Redwood City and fell madly in love with the wide range of high-end and speciality kitchen appliances they offered.

My ideal cooktops for my wok kitchen would be Wolf gas cooktops, as I explained in my business plan. In response, they came back to me and proudly supported Wolf’s 15-inch multi-function cooktop and the 15-inch gas cooktop. Their generosity is much appreciated.

Although it took longer than expected, my new wok kitchen is stunning and ultra-modern. This is exactly what I was looking for—a kitchen with enough wok-hei (breath of the wok) to make Chinese stir-fries, curries, stews, soups and all kinds of great Asian food. Even though the area is limited, it’s just what I was looking for.

You can use your regular kitchen for lighter meals in the wok kitchen instead of your main cooking area. That is the ideal setup for someone who is passionate about cooking, like me.

Due to the fact that I have two 15-inch cooktops that are placed side by side, I can prepare three dishes at once.

This Wolf 15-inch Multi-Function Cooktop is specifically designed for Asian cuisines. The 22,000 BTU/hour flame is perfectly aligned with the bottom of the wok.

With the use of direct heat, I can be sure that my Asian stir-fries will have enough of “wok hei” (breath of wok).

I can cook comfortably in my Asian wok kitchen, despite being a little place. I have a roll-out shelf for my Asian sauces, frying oil, and other condiments.

It’s easy to use, saves space, and keeps my counter clear of clutter. As a result of the kitchen’s compact size, I’m able to maintain it cleaner than I could in a larger one.

In the Bay Area, Atherton Appliance and BSC Culinary both have a broad variety of kitchen equipment, so if you’re thinking about remodelling your kitchen or purchasing new appliances for your new home, be sure to check them out.
