Lemon Chicken

The lemon sauce is acidic, sticky, and sweet, and the chicken is crispy and quick to make. This 20-minute Chinese lemon chicken recipe is superior to restaurant fare and requires no special equipment.

LEMON CHICKEN RECIPE

Chinese lemon chicken is one of my favorite chicken dishes, and I cook it at home very frequently.

My favorite part of the dish is that it features fried chicken pieces in a light, refreshing, and delicious lemon sauce. It’s excellent!

My guidebook “Easy Chinese Recipes” has a similar recipe, although it’s more commonly served at Chinese restaurants in the United States.

Easy and nutritious, it takes 20 minutes from start to finish, and I’ll show you how to do it.

THE LEMON CHICKEN BATTER

All-purpose flour and cornstarch can be used to make crispy chicken.

This will keep the chicken crispy even after the lemon sauce is put in.

COOK’S TIPS

  • So that each bite has a crisp texture and a sweet, fragrant, and tangy flavor from the lemony sauce, the chicken should only be lightly coated in the lemon sauce.
  • Adding white sesame seeds to the chicken’s surface can enhance its appearance.

With this recipe, what are its complementary dishes?

Steamed white rice goes well with this chicken, as it does with other Chinese dishes. I’ve compiled a collection of recipes that are both healthy and quick enough to prepare on a weeknight.

  • TOMATO EGGS
  • CRAB RANGOON
  • HOT AND SOUR SOUP
  • SHRIMP FRIED RICE

INGREDIENTS

  • oil, for deep-frying
  • 1/2 teaspoon white sesame
  • 10 oz. skinless, boneless chicken breast/thigh, cut into small pieces
  • Combined 1/4 cup of flour and 1/4 cup cornstarch, sifted

MARINADE:

  • 1/2 tablespoon Shaoxing wine (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce

SAUCE:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar or more to taste
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • 1 pinch salt or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Marinade the chicken for 30 minutes. Combine all of the marinade ingredients to make the sauce. Set aside for now.
  2. Cornstarch and all-purpose flour should be mixed together and applied to the marinated chicken. Prepare a wok with two inches of oil and get it hot. As soon as the oil is hot enough, add the chicken and cook it until golden brown. Transfer the chicken to a paper towel-lined dish to remove any remaining oil.
  3. Bring all of the sauce’s components to a rapid boil in a small saucepan. Stir the lemon sauce into the fried chicken before serving.
  4. Serve immediately with the white sesame on top.
